Infectious Diseases
Infectious diseases are caused by microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, or parasites and can spread from person to person. Identifying types of infectious diseases (i.e. Tuberculosis, STDs, HIV/Aids, E. Coli, Influenza, etc.), how these diseases are often spread, and how to protect yourself and others from these diseases are key components in helping to stop the spread of such infections. Efforts to reduce infectious diseases in Shelby County consist of maximizing the ability to detect, measure and track infectious diseases as well as maximizing capacity to treat and manage select infectious diseases.
